Realicé la primera fase del Proyecto Sleepless entre los años 2000 y 2004 en la ciudad de Barcelona.
La post-producción del mismo se desarrolló durante los años 2005-2006, y continuó, mediante la participación del público, durante la muestra "Urbanitas" en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Vigo (MARCO)
En la fase inicial del proyecto recolecté entre la basura abandonada en las calles de Ciutat Vella una gran cantidad de sommieres. Sobre estas antiguas camas, ahora rechazadas, habrá dormido un número de personas tan amplio como indeterminado.
Seleccioné sólo aquellos somieres que incorporaban láminas de madera de 5 cmts de ancho, la medida standard más común en el mercado.
Los puntos de recolección eran anotados y catalogados en un antiguo mapa de la ciudad según la frecuencia de aparición de material.
Posteriormente procesé las maderas originales, cortándolas para obtener más de 4500 módulos con unas medidas de 15 X 5 cmts. Estas tiras idénticas fueron posteriormente agrupadas en paquetes de 20 unidades numerados del 1 al 200.
Se fabricaron ocho cajas de transporte, compartimentadas para incluir 25 paquetes cada una (500 módulos por caja). Una novena caja, idéntica al resto, contiene una pantalla que muestra el vídeo documental de los distintos pasos del proceso( recolección, procesado, organización, transporte, instalación en el espacio museístico, etc.)
Esta caja incluye también el mapa de la zona urbana en la que los sommieres habían sido recogidos, registrando los puntos concretos mediante alfileres de colores que indican la frecuencia. Un gráfico especifica cada una de las categorías indicando el color a ellas asignada.
El display objetual se culmina con un elemento mecánico, formado por una cabeza numeradora correlativa y una prensa de palanca accionada mediante la intervención del público.

En su presentación en el espacio expositivo, la pieza consiste en la distribución horizontal de los módulos base formando un parket escalonado,sin ningún tipo de fijación en el suelo, encargándose el público con su paso de modificar la estructura del mismo.
El público asistente podía coger del suelo los módulos de madera y usando el elemento mecánico , numerar mediante presión la pieza introducida. A continuación podrá optar por dejar la lámina en la sala, o llevarla consigo.
En el fin de la muestra se obtiene un registro exacto del número de visitantes que hayan llegado hasta el fin del proceso sugerido, colaborando en la producción final de la obra.


I developed the first stage of Sleepless Project between years 2000 and 2004 in the city of Barcelona.
The post-production was developed during 2005-2006, and continued, by means of the participation of the public, during the exhibition "Urbanitas" in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Vigo (MARCO)
At the initial stage of the project I collected in the streets of Ciutat Vella a great amount of used bed matrixes. Over these old beds now rejected, a number of people as wide as indeterminate had slept.
I selected only those matrixes that incorporated wood laminae of 5 cmts wide, the standard model in the market. The harvesting points were written down and catalogued in an city old map, according to the frequency of material appearance.
Later I processed the original wood pieces, cutting them to obtain more than 4500 modules with measures of 15 X 5 cmts.
These identical strips were later grouped in packages of 20 units, numbered from the 1 to the 200.
Eight transport wooden boxes were made, prepared to contain 25 packages each (500 modules by box).
A ninth box identical to the rest contains a plasma screen that shows the video which documents the different steps of the project (recollection, organization, transport, installation at the museum space, etc.)
This box also includes the map of the urban zone iwhere matixes had been gathered, registering these points using color pins that indicate the frequency. A graph specifies each one of the categories indicating the color assigned.
The display completes with a mechanical element, a correlative numbering head attached to a handle driven press that the public can activate.
For its presentation in the expositive venue, the piece consists of the horizontal distribution of the base modules base, creating a floor parket without any fixation to the ground, so the public would modify the structure by walking through it.
The attending public was invited to take the wood modules, insert them in the numbering machine, and by turning the wheel of the mechanism, number by pressure their wood piece. Then they could choose either to leave it in the room, or take it with them.
At the end of the show an exact registry of the visitors´ number was obtained, counting those who had fullfilled the suggested process, becomiing an active part in the final production of the work.
