ELEMENT 3.1

The installation Element 3.1 offers the assistant
public a mechanism of artificial rain generation.

The work consists of a closed circuit formed by iron modules with a total surface of 36 square meters (6 x 6 meters).
Over this square base, four semicircular seats are available to the public freely accede.
Over these seats and suspended of the ceiling,
a hoop of five meters of diameter equipped with
one hundred shower diffusers is settled.
It is
through them that the water hurries down
when a movement detector locates the presence
of a user in each of the four seats.
This way,
the visitor can remain whatever time he wants
inside this "dry" zone while around him the water falls in a convincing imitation of natural rain.

The used water is gathered in an hidden deposit
from where it pumps again as soon as the
mechanism is activated with the presence of
another user.

The complexity and dimensions of the device
conceived for this intention contrast with the
apparent simplicity of the event that it persecutes:
to obtain rain.

During the exhibition, it rained inexorably outside,
but in the inside it was up to each visitant to exert
its will on the "when" and "how much" of its individualized rain.
So, in this confrontation between natural and artificial, the cultural construction of
the artistic object appears to us like mere simulation so controllable and limited as not waived.
