Decreto Urbis et Orbis



Para tutelar el sacramento de la Penitencia, se sanciona con excomunión latae sententiae a cualquiera que capte mediante instrumentos técnicos o divulgue mediante instrumentos de comunicación social lo que se dice por el confesor y por el penitente.


La Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe, para tutelar la santidad del sacramento de la Penitencia y para proteger los derechos de los ministros y los fieles que se refieren al sigilo sacramental y otros secretos conectados con la Confesión, por la fuerza de la facultad especial que le ha sido concedida por la Suprema autoridad de la Iglesia (can. 30), ha decretado:

Permaneciendo firme lo prescrito en el can. 1388, cualquiera que capte por cualquier instrumento técnico lo que se dice por el confesor o el penitente, en una Confesión Sacramental, verdadera o fingida, realizada por uno mismo o por otro, o lo divulga a través de instrumentos de comunicación social, incurre en excomunión latae sententiae.



Este decreto comienza su vigencia en el día de su promulgación.

Decree Urbis et Orbis




Tutelary the sacrament of Penance, those who capture by means of technical instruments or disclose by means of media instruments what has been said by the confesor and the penitent are sanctioned with excommunication latae sententiae.


The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, tutelary the sanctity of the sacrament of Penance and in order to protect the rights of the ministers and the faithfuls regarding the sacramental seal and other secrets connected with the Confession, by the force of the special faculty granted by the Supreme authority of the Church (can. 30), has decreed:


Remaining the prescribed in the can. 1388, whoever capture by any technical mean what the confesor or the penitente says in a Sacramental Confession, be it true or false, made by oneself or another, or discloses it through media instruments, incurs excommunication latae sententiae.



This decree enters into force on the day of its promulgation.
