Mear fuera del tiesto
Manteniendo una marcada voluntad de aglutinar
diversos trabajos bajo hilos conductores afines,
presenté en la galerÃa DF la segunda entrega de
"Statement", serie que se articula a partir del
concepto de "afirmación categórica".
Partiendo de una lectura de la frase "mear fuera del
tiesto", aporto una reflexión respecto a la función
del creador en un contexto artÃstico instrumentalizado
y pretendidamente aséptico, a la vez que cuestiono
el carácter neutro de la red como mero sistema
portador de contenidos, generando mediante la
colaboración del público internauta un resultado
fÃsico, tanto en el campo de lo público (la calle),
como en el mismo interior de la institución Arte
(el wc del espacio expositivo).
La instalación consta de un depósito cilÃndrico de
seis metros de longitud realizado en acero inoxidable,
instalado en horizontal y fijado al techo de la sala
mediante cables de acero.
Este depósito aloja en su interior un total de
121 litros de una mezcla de orina del autor y agua,
en proporción de 1-4.
Accediendo a la dirección www.rubensantiago.net,
el usuario-espectador podrá activar el funcionamiento
de la instalación pulsando un único interruptor virtual.
Al hacerlo, el lÃquido contenido en el depósito será
impulsado hacia dos salidas, una ubicada en la
entrada de la galerÃa, y la otra en el cuarto de baño
de la misma, empleado tambien como espacio
expositivo.
En cada uno de estos puntos, una cámara
conectada a la red recoge la salida de lÃquidos
desde un punto de vista en primera persona.
El usuario-espectador recibirá esta imagen en
tiempo real.
El publico presente en la galerÃa solo podrá
observar el funcionamiento del mecanismo cuando
un anónimo e invisible visitante lo active a distancia.
Maintaining a noticeable will to develop different works under continuous tracks (series like "simple mechanisms for", "Element" or the most well-known "Corpses boxes") I presented / displayed at the Gallery DF - Contemporary Art, the second work of "Statement", a series articulated from the concept of "categorical affirmation".
Starting from a reading of the sentence "piss outside the toilette"*, I present a reflection regarding the function of the artist in a manipulated and supposedly aseptic artistic context, as questioning the neutral character of the Internet as a mere carrying system of contents, generating, through the collaboration of the internaut public, a physical result, on the public environment - the street, as in the interior of the art institution - the toilette of the exhibition space.
The installation consists of a drum container of six meters length made in stainless steel, horizontally installed and fixed to the ceiling of the room by steel cables. This container lodges in its interior a total of 121 litters of a mixture of my urine and water, in a proportion of 1-4.
Acceding to www.rubensantiago.net, the user-spectator will be able to activate the operating system of the installation pressing a virtual switch.
When doing so, the liquid from the container will be impelled towards two exits, one located in the entrance of the gallery, and the other in its bathroom, employed also as exhibition space.
In each one of these spots, a camera connected to the Internet captures the exit of the liquids from a first person point of view. The user-spectator will receive this real-time image.
The public present in the gallery will be able to observe the operating mechanism when an anonymous and invisible visitor activates it from a distance.
